Boy - Friends

The last day of February
Dawns bright and chilly.
A friendly smile
An angel, kind and ever present.

A cascade of praise
Kind feelings result
What more can I give?
Uncertainty and doubt constant

My heart is torn
Passion and friendship
Can they be one?

Where once was black and white,
A spatter of vibrant and dark threads
Has become my life of dreams.

Think and Feel

Irregular beats of my heart
It longs for something, someone
But the mind fights against its struggle
For it knows that pain is imminent.

How can the mind let go of the heart?
Eternally connected yet separated
He asks me to not think
And I feel the natural man take over.

Passion, longing, hearts beat as one.
My heart soars free in happiness
Yet pain, suffering and loss of control
Are the result of a broken bridle.

Joy is an elusive friend
Confusion a constant companion
And I am alone to debate
To fight my tortured mind
To heal my longing heart.

Conversion

From dirt are we made
An enduring breath of life
That will never fade
While dealing with mortal strife.

Tall buildings of steel
Built on firm ground
Unyielding, to the sky they feel,
Stable and unwavering found.

Where is a firm foundation
That which keeps things standing
In this world of constant vibration.

In light is a firm landing
But how can dirt be made steel
To prevent a disbanding?

Violence of Change

The snow sparkles
New, clean and untouched
The fresh, cold air tickles my throat

My eyes drink in the pristine scene
Alone, free and without worry
My footsteps muffled by the soft snow.

A loud and unnatural sound
Booms and echoes bouncing off the cliffs
My head snaps to the source of the sound

And then I see it,
A tsunami of snow
And I know no escape

The white powder robs my breath
My sight turns black
And I feel the snow begin to crush me

Everything turns quiet
My sight is gone
And I am alone and helpless

The minutes pass like hours
And I begin to lose all hope
Of rescue or escape

My struggle against the refrozen snow
Which has now become my prison
Is unheard by any one but myself.

Exhausted of all strength
At the point of giving up I wonder
How long this pocket of air will give me breath

I struggle once more
Though most would call it useless
I find strength deep inside and I can't give up

And then I hear it
A scraping, some yelling
And hope rises again

Then a light penetrates
Too bright for my darkened eyes
And I hear a friend's voice

This loyal friend
Carries me to refuge
Across dirty, uneven terrain

A now different world
From the one before I was buried
And i see that I will never be the same.

Barrier of Protection

I see lights in the distance
I hear a rolling thunder
My city is laid bare to the enemy.

Ravines are dug
Walls are built
Great are my defenses

Yet a friend knocks on the gate
And I let him in with open arms
But from within will be the destruction

I fear the coming battle
Brought to these thick walls
I am ever vigilant at the lookout

I see my friend and I go to him
He hides his eyes
As he pulls a knife from his pocket

The struggle begins
As the war is brought within the walls
And my city is in danger of catastrophe

I am able to throw him from my city
But my trust now gone has ripped me of allies
For no one now passes the gates of my walled city.

Flight

Birds make it look so easy
And I watch from below
Jealously wishing to join.

My feet remain firmly in reality
And I dirty my feet in the mud
As I stare longingly into the azure sky.

A friend quietly joins me as I look to the heavens
And he takes my hand softly
Drawing my gaze to his sweet blue eyes

Those sapphire eyes full of hope and joy
Laughingly they bring me to new heights
And I find a friend with the gift to make me fly.

Mirrors

Images never ceasing
The faces look back at me
And I ask, "Who are you?"

The distortion makes it hard to see
Yet the images appear correct
And I ask, "Why are you?"

But an image is seen
In the reflection of a friend's eyes
And I ask, "How are you?"

And only then do I realize the true image
Is seen in His perfect reflection
And I ask, "Lord, How is it done?"

The Hand

The stars gleam brightly
But I take no notice
The glimmering full moon winks
But I am lost and alone

Darkness fills me
Light does not penetrate
And all is lost
The fog overwhelms me
And I am alone

But a hand
Calloused but tender
Reaches out
And I grab it

I cling desperately
To this Saviour's touch
And the loneliness ebbs away
And hope seeps in

And then a light
From the rocky horizon
Begins to penetrate
This hardened shell

The light of the dawn
In its kaleidoscope of color
Brings warmth to my soul
And perspective to my mind

This yellow globe
Peaks shyly out
From among the fleeing shadows

Its rays heal
Its light opens my eyes
And I see
And I see!

My friend, this kind unselfish soul
Brings me back to realize
That I was never alone
Even when I could not feel that hand

For as I look to the ground
In wonder from my blindness and ignorance
I see the footprints
Of a worried and watchful friend
But not one footprint
Led away from me
For he never left me.

Poem by my roommate Lynnae

Lynnae wrote this poem in response to my previous poem, and I thought it deserved a spot on my blog.

The tiniest sparrow am I
With wings too small for flight
But just as the sapling small
Looks to the oak tree's might
Or the stream that dreams of the waterfall
The spirit longs to soar
To feel the Maker's touch

Too often it seems a wistful dream
Untouchable at best
Unless there's one to stand between
And show that faith is blest

The cardinal may not an eagle be
But from my lower perch, you are an eagle to me.

Beautiful Eclipse

The flower blooms
In iridescent color
Such a celestial lure
Draws all attention

But behind the beauty
It squelches the growth
Of its neighbors' potential

The deceiving color
The lie in its petals
Distracts from the eventual eclipse
Of the life giving force
To those too close
To its dangerous petals

And yet as those too close
Obliviously suffer and wither
Under the shadow of this selfish flower
The flower is saddened
For the surrounding, dying flora
For it knows that
The forest carpet is its frame

And beauty without a frame
Is not anything
But a substandard painting
Left in a basement
To be adored by no one

And so the flower grieves for the frame
Because it is not garnishment alone
For the flower without a carpet
Does not have firm ground
To place its essential roots

It is vulnerably alone
To deal with the torrent
That saturates the mud
Til the faded and battered flower
Is smothered and lost
Never to be admired again.

*A few notes to this poem. I feel that admiration is equal to happiness and joy.

Wounds Never Truly Heal

They bleed despite the bandages
And ignorance only increases the pain
When realization hits
That wounds never truly heal.

The bleeding eventually stops
And the external repairing begins
But the Scar remains to attest
That wounds never truly heal.

The scars may fade and deceive
Those who look on the outside appearances
But the memories of hurt never fade
And so wounds never truly heal.

The true healing can begin
As soon as He is allowed in
He heals all and leaves no scar
For with Him wounds can truly heal.
