For the Birds

The birds chirp loudly
Their conversation fills the air
A gentle breeze lifts their wings
And their silouhuette imprints
Against the clear blue sky.

What are they saying?
What are they fighting about?
What game are they playing?

The trees sway in the wind
Ruffling the birds' home.
Restless they are
Ever since the sun began to shine.

A robin lands close;
Looks at me questioningly.
A black spot in this heavenly scene.
And I wonder how I fit in.

To Act

My life, a broken record
A circle of repeats
A road to nowhere.

Progression halted
Lost in my own mind
Actions impossible

Forever stuck
To stay in this
Rut of indecision.

I choose
I act
I decide
And yet I don't.

Mending the Broken

I see a friend
Pain in his eyes
I long to help
To soothe away his hurt.

But I cannot mend
When I am broken
Useless, shattered
Of no worth.

Only One
Can truly heal
Mend, even though
He was broken.

But we both
Continue broken
Unwilling to accept
And be whole.

Reflection

A life of mirrors
I want to break them all
And just do what I feel
But reason stops me
From committing this folly.

For I know that no one
Can live without those mirrors
Ever present, no matter
The countless attempts to shatter.

Hands

A soft hand, an inviting hand
I grab it and feel comfortable.
It guides me away and
My back turns on the light.

Deceivingly friendly
I feel calm as I walk willingly
Into the black darkness
Where light cannot penetrate.

I open my eyes
And I see nothing
Fear grips me;
This traitorous hand lets go.

I realize my error
But it is too late
And I am lost to
That warm light forever.

Where is that calloused hand?
The one that knows me
The one that can lead
This rebellious soul back home?

He is close, closer than I know.
I need but reach out for Him.
But shame and regret stay my hand
And the darkness penetrates me
Until I am all but a black hole.

Turmoil Reigns

The birds sing
their hopeful son.
The wind promises
with each fresh breath.

The sun sinks heat
into my skin and
a distant cry
of a horse is heard.

A peaceful setting
For sure it's peace
is attempting to enter.

But my heart and mind
know no peace
The wind blows my hair
across my stone face.

Pain keeps me hidden
deep inside and
no mateer how the earth tries
Turmoil reigns and my thoughts
remain distant to earth's plight.
